About Shule Poa

What Shule Poa is, who it’s for and what you need to use it.

What is Shule Poa?

Shule Poa is an online school for Kenyan learners. You learn with short video lessons, notes and quick quizzes that follow the curriculum your teachers use, then practise until it sticks.

It’s built to be fun: you earn XP, keep a daily streak, collect badges and climb a weekly league with learners from your county.

Which classes does it cover?

Grade 6 to Grade 12 on the CBE curriculum, and Form 3 to Form 4 on 8-4-4 (KCSE). You choose your class when you sign up, and you can change it later on your Me page.

Which subjects can I learn?

Mathematics for every class; Science & Technology (Grade 6); Integrated Science and Pre-Technical Studies (Grades 7 to 9); Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Studies (Grade 10 and up, and Form 3 to 4).

There’s also Introduction to AI, a short course for every class that goes beyond the syllabus: how AI works, and how to use it wisely and safely. See all the subjects.

Does Shule Poa replace school?

No. It works alongside your school. The lessons follow the same CBE and KCSE curriculum, so revising here strengthens what you learn in class and helps you prepare for KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE.

Do I need a smartphone or an app?

Shule Poa works in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer: just open www.shulepoa.com. There’s nothing to download from an app store.

To use it like an app, add it to your home screen: in Chrome tap ⋮ › Add to Home screen; on an iPhone tap Share › Add to Home Screen.

How much data does it use?

Videos play in a quality that suits your connection, so they keep going on a slow network. Lessons are short (about 5 to 8 minutes), and slides and notes use very little data.

  • Turn on 📶 Data saver on your Me page: nothing plays or loads until you tap it.
  • Save a lesson while you’re on Wi-Fi and watch it later without data. Saved lessons stay on that phone’s browser.

For learners

Signing up, how lessons work, practice and help when you’re stuck.

How do I sign up?

Tap Start learning, choose Learner, and fill in your name, email and a password. Open the email we send to confirm your account, then choose your class, a nickname and an avatar.

If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must agree before you join. You’ll be asked for their name and phone number or email.

How does a lesson work?

Each lesson has up to three steps: ▶ Watch the video, 📖 Read the notes or slides, then 🎯 Quiz yourself with a few questions. Every answer comes with an explanation, and maths and science questions show the working step by step.

Finishing a lesson earns XP and keeps your streak going. You can do a lesson again any time to improve your score.

What if I leave a lesson halfway?

Shule Poa remembers where you stopped: the step, the video and even the slide. When you come back, on any phone or computer, it carries on from there. Tap Start from the beginning if you’d rather start again.

What are XP, streaks, badges and leagues?
  • XP are points for finishing lessons, answering correctly and practising.
  • Your streak counts the days in a row you’ve learned something. It goes by Nairobi time and ends at midnight if you skip a day.
  • Badges celebrate milestones, such as your first lesson, a perfect quiz or a 7-day streak.
  • Leagues rank learners by this week’s XP, nationally and in your county. Only your nickname and avatar are shown.
How do I practise for exams?

Open Practice for quick topic drills on any strand, a weak-spot drill on the strand you find hardest, and past papers you sit against the clock and mark with the marking scheme.

Questions you get wrong are saved under Fix your mistakes, so you can try them again until you get them right.

What is the AI tutor?

The AI tutor answers questions about your schoolwork, explains things step by step and can help with a lesson you’re on. Under a quiz question you got wrong, Why was I wrong? explains your mistake.

Free learners get 3 tutor questions a day; Plus learners get 20. The tutor only helps with schoolwork, and it never sees your phone number or email. It can make mistakes, so check anything important with your teacher.

How do I join my teacher’s class?

Ask your teacher for the class code (six letters and numbers, like ABC-DEF), then open Me › Join a class and type it in. Your teacher’s homework then appears on your Home page and under 📌 Homework, and their own lessons appear under 🏫 From your teacher.

By joining, you let that teacher see your name and how you do on their class’s homework and lessons, nothing else.

Can Shule Poa remind me to study?

Yes, if you want it to. Open Me › 🔔 Reminders and choose push notifications, email or WhatsApp, and what to be reminded about: your streak, a daily study time, homework and new lessons from your teacher, new lessons for your class, or mistakes to fix.

Reminders are never sent between 9 pm and 6 am, and at most two a day. On an iPhone, notifications work after you add Shule Poa to your home screen.

Free lessons, Plus and payments

What’s free, what Shule Poa Plus adds, prices and paying with M-Pesa.

Is Shule Poa free?

A lot of it is, and it stays free:

  • the first strand of every subject in every class, and the first lesson of every other strand;
  • homework your teacher sets, and every lesson you’ve already finished;
  • quizzes, XP, streaks, badges and leagues.

Until the launch date, everything is open for everyone while we launch.

What does Shule Poa Plus add?
  • Every lesson in every class, including earlier classes for revision.
  • Unlimited practice and weak-spot drills.
  • Every past paper, timed, with marking schemes.
  • The AI tutor 20 times a day, and many more “Why was I wrong?” explanations.

New learners get 7 days of Plus free.

How much does Plus cost?
  • Weekly: KES 100 for 7 days
  • Monthly: KES 300 for 1 month
  • Termly: KES 800 for 4 months
  • Yearly: KES 2,000 for 1 year
  • Family monthly: KES 450 for 1 month (up to 3 children)
  • Family termly: KES 1,200 for 4 months (up to 3 children)

The price you see before you pay is the full price. A Family plan is bought from a parent account and covers the first 3 children linked to it. Termly fits the school term best.

How do I pay?

With M-Pesa. On the Plus page, choose a plan and enter the M-Pesa number; a prompt appears on that phone to enter the M-Pesa PIN. Plus starts as soon as M-Pesa confirms the payment.

No M-Pesa? Tap 👨‍👩‍👧 Ask a parent to pay to send your parent or guardian a private payment link. Whoever pays, Plus belongs to the learner. Learners under 18 need their parent or guardian’s permission before paying.

Does Plus renew by itself?

No, never. Nothing is taken from your M-Pesa unless you choose to pay again. We email a reminder a few days before a paid plan ends; paying again adds time after your current Plus ends.

Are there any discounts?
  • Founding families: 20% off Termly, Yearly and Family termly for anyone who joined before the launch date, if they pay before that day.
  • Streak reward: 10% off a first Termly plan after a 7-day streak.

The best one applies; they don’t add up. Discounts are shown on the price before you pay.

Can I get Plus by inviting friends?

Yes. Share your invite link or code from 🎁 Invite. A friend who joins with it gets 7 extra days of Plus on top of the usual 7, and you get 7 days of Plus once they’ve finished 3 lessons. Rewards are days of Plus, never money. See the invite rules.

Can I get a refund?

We refund you in full, to the M-Pesa number that paid, if M-Pesa took your money but Plus didn’t unlock and we can’t fix it within 2 working days, or if you were charged twice by mistake.

Contact us with the M-Pesa message (it starts with a code such as “SJK…”). We aim to reply within 2 working days and send refunds within 7 days. See Refunds.

For parents and guardians

Following your child’s learning, weekly reports and paying for Plus.

How can I follow my child’s learning?

Sign up for a free parent account. Your child opens Me › 👨‍👩‍👧 Parent account, makes a one-time code and gives it to you; you enter it in your parent account. You can link several children.

Your child can also send you a private report link, which opens their report without an account.

What will I see?

How your child’s week compares with their usual week, a calendar of the days they learned, when they study, their weekly goal, homework, recent wins and the topics they find hard. With Plus you also get 8-week trends, exam readiness and short How to help this week guides.

You see their learning only, never their messages to the AI tutor.

Can I get a weekly report by email?

Yes. Your child can add your email under ✉️ Weekly email to your parent. You confirm it once, then a short report arrives every Sunday. You can stop it any time from the email.

Is it available in Kiswahili?

The parent pages and the Sunday email can be in English or Kiswahili: choose at the top of your parent page. Lessons are in English, the language of the curriculum, and the AI explains Kiswahili questions in Kiswahili.

Can I pay for my child’s Plus?

Yes, from your parent account, for one child or with a Family plan for up to 3 children. Or your child can send you a payment link and you pay with your M-Pesa. Plus never renews by itself.

For teachers and schools

Joining your school, running classes, homework and your own lessons.

How do I join as a teacher?

Sign up and choose 🧑‍🏫 Teacher. You go straight to the Studio, where you choose your school (or type it in if it isn’t listed). A Shule Poa admin checks that you teach there, usually within a day, and then you can make classes. A Getting started checklist shows the next step.

What can I do with my classes?

Make a class, share its code on your class WhatsApp group, and set homework: any Shule Poa lesson, topic drill or past paper, or one of your own lessons, with a due date. Results show who has done it, their scores, and each learner’s weak spot.

Homework is free for learners in your class, even if the lesson is normally Plus.

Can I make my own lessons?

Yes. In 📚 My class content, make a lesson with videos, PowerPoint slides, PDFs, notes and a quiz (the AI can draft questions for you to check), tick which of your classes see it, and make it live. Learners in those classes find it under 🏫 From your teacher, and get a reminder if they’ve turned reminders on.

Each lesson shows How it’s going: who opened it, who finished it, scores, and the questions learners still get wrong.

Who can see my lessons?

Only learners in the classes you choose, while they’re in the class. Your lessons are always labelled with your name, the class and the school, and they never become Shule Poa lessons or appear for other schools. Shule Poa admins can see every teacher’s lesson and can take one down if it breaks the rules.

Is there a limit on what I can upload?

Each teacher has 500 MB for files (up to 100 MB each), 30 videos and 180 minutes of video. Your usage shows at the top of My class content. If you need more, contact us.

Can I write lessons for Shule Poa itself?

Yes, we work with teachers who write Shule Poa lessons for every learner. Contact us. If you join the content team, you keep your own classes too.

Privacy and safety

Your data, who can see what, and how to report a worry.

What data do you keep, and who can see it?

Your account details, your class and your learning: lessons, scores, XP and streaks. Other learners see only your nickname and avatar on leagues. A teacher sees your name and results only for their own classes, and a parent only after you link them. We never sell your data.

The Privacy notice explains everything we keep, why, and for how long.

Can I download or delete my data?

Yes. On your Me page you can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account. Deleting removes your login, profile, progress, XP and history.

Is the AI tutor safe for children?

It only helps with schoolwork, and phone numbers and email addresses are removed before anything reaches it. Conversations are not kept. If a learner says something that suggests they may be in danger, the tutor points them to someone who can help, such as Childline Kenya on 116.

How do I report something worrying?

Use Report a concern. It goes straight to our safeguarding lead. If a child is in danger right now, call the police on 999 or 112, or Childline Kenya free on 116, any time.

To report a mistake in a lesson, tap Report a problem under the lesson.
